Privacy

Privacy here is built into how the site works. We keep as little as we can, we tell you what we keep, and you can take it back. This page is the whole picture, in plain terms.

The short version

Your ratings are public. When you say what a game was worth, that becomes part of a shared record other players can see. It stays there, anonymised, even if you leave.

The price you paid is private. It is shown only to you, in your own library. It is never published, never shown to developers, and never appears in any public total.

Your personal data is never for sale. Not to advertisers, not to studios, not to anyone. What we may publish or share is what the site exists to produce: figures about what players think games are worth, added up across many people, with no one identifiable in them.

What we hold, and why

Only what the site needs to work.

If you sign in with Steam: your Steam ID, your Steam alias, the games you own, and your playtime. We fetch these only when you sign in or ask us to sync. Steam checks your password; we never see it.

If you sign in by email: your email address, so we can send you a sign-in link. There are no passwords anywhere on the site. We only email you when you ask us to. No marketing, ever.

What you add yourself: your library, the games in it, what you said each was worth and on which platform, anything you wrote about why, and the price you paid if you chose to enter it. Also a display name, if you set one.

Your region. Prices and worth are shown in the currency of the region you are in, so the site needs to know roughly where that is. If you set a region, we use that. If you have not, we use an approximate location worked out from your connection: our host resolves the country at its edge and passes us the country code only. We never see or store your IP address. The region is saved on each rating you make, because a rating in one region is not the same as a rating in another, and it is used to decide which figures you see. It is not used for anything else.

If you rate without an account: we keep the rating itself, the worth, the platform, your region, and when, under the random identifier in the rating cookie, and nothing about who you are. That rating is labelled Unverified.

Reports and messages: if you report a rating, we keep the report and what we did about it. If you write to us through the contact form, we keep the message and your reply address if you gave one. Both are kept for two years, then anything that identifies you is removed and the record stays.

A small activity log: the site keeps a server-side record of a few things it does, such as when a sign-in link is requested, when a rating is completed, and when you open the site signed in. Visits by people without an account are counted with no identity attached. It does not record what you did on a page. Searches are logged to find gaps in the catalogue, and are never linked to anyone. Anything in this log that identifies you is removed after thirteen months.

We do not keep your name, your address, or your card details. We do not use tracking scripts, analytics services, session recording, or anything that watches how you use a page.

Cookies and what your browser stores

Two cookies, each doing something you asked for, which is why there is no cookie banner.

A sign-in cookie. Keeps you signed in. It expires within a day.

A rating cookie. If you rate a game without an account, we set a cookie holding a random identifier so your ratings stay together and can be claimed if you later sign up. It is set only when you rate, never when you just read, and it holds no personal detail. It lasts twelve months from your last visit. Signed out, the Data privacy page shows a reference to this cookie, which you can quote to us in a data request.

Your browser also keeps a few choices of yours so the site stays the way you left it: the region or currency you picked, and how you like a game's ratings shown. These live in your browser's own storage, are saved only when you change something, and identify nothing and nobody.

Who else handles your data

A few services help run the site. They see only what they need.

Railway hosts our database, in the Netherlands. Vercel serves the website. Resend sends sign-in emails from Ireland, and keeps its records of that sending, including your email address, in the United States. Google Workspace runs our own mailboxes, so if you write to us your message lands there, and Google may store it in the United States too.

Steam receives your Steam ID when you sign in with Steam or sync your library, because that is how we ask Steam for your games. IGDB and IsThereAnyDeal supply game details and price history. They receive no personal data from us.

Where a service stores data outside the UK, the transfer is protected by safeguards recognised under UK data protection law: the UK extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, and standard contractual clauses.

What you can do

See what we hold, or change it. Your library, ratings, and settings are yours to edit any time from your profile. For a copy of everything we hold about you, open the Account menu, choose Data privacy, then Download my data. If you rated without an account, the Data privacy page shows a reference to quote when you write to us. Either way, info@fair-play.games always works.

Delete your account. From Settings, or by writing to info@fair-play.games. It happens immediately.

Your ratings remain part of the public record, anonymised. Everything private to you is deleted: your email, what you paid, what you wrote.

This cannot be undone.

Your library goes with it. If you sign up again, you start with a new, empty account. Any report you filed stays, with you removed from it.

Complain. If you think we have got something wrong, tell us first at info@fair-play.games. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

The legal footing

Fair Play Games is run by Jason Bamforth, a sole trader in the United Kingdom. We are registered with the Information Commissioner's Office, registration ZC246200. To write to us by post, or for legal service: Fair Play Games, Lytchett House, 13 Freeland Park, Wareham Road, Poole, Dorset, BH16 6FA.

We process your data because you asked us to run an account for you, and, for the activity log and moderation, because a site like this cannot work honestly without them. We rely on no other basis, and we ask for no permissions we do not need.

You must be 13 or over to use Fair Play Games. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone younger.

Game data on this site comes from IGDB and Steam under their terms, and is provided as it comes. Fair Play Games is not affiliated with or endorsed by Valve, Steam, Twitch, or IGDB.

Changes

If anything on this page changes, the page changes first and the date below changes with it.
