About

MVP: Minimum viable product. The site is young and built mobile-first. The desktop browser layout is next; PC players, we haven't forgotten you. We'll keep adding features and post updates on the blog.

Who we are

Fair Play Games is a small, independent site. No investors, no advertising, no venture money, and no plans to change that. That independence is the whole point: the storefronts that sell you games, and the databases the industry runs on, can't tell you honestly what a game is worth, because they make their money when you spend more.

Our founder is a first generation gamer who believes we need a voice. This site is that voice.

Why we built this

We're a passionate community, and we love a bargain. We keep asking in our forums and communities, "is this game worth it?" But worth what? 4.5 stars is a bit abstract.

So we ask: what was it actually worth to you?

Did you get your money's worth? A bargain, or were you left underwhelmed? Your answer is the one the next player needs before they spend.

The more of us who contribute, the clearer the worth becomes. And if enough of us say it, maybe we can influence the industry and make game pricing fairer.

How it works

  1. Find a game you've played.
  2. Say what you think it was worth.
  3. Submit it, and let other players know.

Even better, sign in and build your library, sync it from Steam, or add your console collection yourself. No Steam account? Email sign-in works too.

And that's genuinely it. No streaks, no daily rewards, no feed to scroll. We don't want you here every day, that's not how this works. Go and play something. Come back when you've finished it and know what it was worth, or when you're eyeing a new game and want to know what players who actually bought it would have paid.

Bookmark us for the next one. And if the site did its job, tell a friend. We don't advertise, so players telling players is the only way this grows.

Where the numbers come from

Where do our numbers come from?

You, and the rest of the community. Everyone gets one rating per game, per platform, because a game can be a gem on one and a mess on another. Fair Play does the maths and gives you back the community's figure. We don't weight it. What we do is let you filter it: by region, by platform, and by how each rating is backed, so you can look at the picture however you trust it.

Be the first. Why does the first rating on a game need a Fair Play account?

Honestly, we'd like the first voice on a game to come from someone invested in the site and in the idea of saying what games are actually worth. Sign in through Steam and you can sync your games library, purchases are verified and playtime is updated. For your Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, and other platforms, you add them yourself, and we value your honesty. No Steam account? No problem, sign in by email and add your whole library yourself. Once a game has its first rating, anyone can add theirs, account or not. That's open season, so be the first.

Can I trust every rating equally?

Not every rating carries the same certainty, and we don't hide that. Each one shows how it's backed: ✓ Verified when we could confirm the purchase and playtime through Steam, ◆ Self-reported when a signed-in player told us themselves, and ○ Unverified when it was made without signing in. Every one of them counts, and every one of them is shown. We show you what's behind each rating, and let you filter it, so you can weigh the community's voice exactly how you trust it.

The same honesty applies to the overall figure: we only show the ratings breakdown once there are enough ratings to make it meaningful.

What information we hold about you

Not much, and never more than we need. We think that's how it should be.

You can change or remove any of it whenever you like. For the full picture, what we store, why, and how to erase it, see our Privacy page.

The Pay button

Every game has one, and for now they're all grey. When a developer joins Fair Play and switches payments on, their button goes live, and you'll be able to pay them what you think their game was worth.

Until then, a click on a grey Pay button is a vote. We count who players want to pay, and that tells us which developers and studios to approach first. You're counted once per game.

Independence

We answer to you, the players, and no one else. No investors setting growth targets. No advertisers to keep happy. No publisher paying for a softer number. The figure you see is the figure the community gave.

Here's how we keep the lights on. Right now, the site is funded by its founder. When the payment rail opens, and a player chooses to pay a developer directly, we'll take 10% and pass the rest on. That's the model. No ads, no investors, and your personal data is never for sale.
